Tunisian artist on exhibit in Paris
Tunis, May 30, 2008 (TunisiaOnline) --Abderrazak Sahli, 67 is an iconoclast artist, whose imagination shapes and transforms casual objects into works of art. For Sahli a simple ‘sakhane' or traditional wooden heater, becomes endowed with an artistic life of its own, yet always playful and imbued with tolerance, peace and love.
In his usual dishevelled style, combining a number of objects, and free floating papers, carved out in the shape of mosaics, the artist recently exhibited his work at the “Galerie Helene Lamarque” in Paris .
His art which calls on all of the viewer's senses, is a faithful reflection of his inside world, peopled with the pictures and colors of his youth, as well as those of Hammamet, where the he lives amidst olive groves, orange trees and his faithful pets.
Sahli who is also a poet, compares an artist surrounded by his works, to a shepherd amidst his sheep and ewes.
His work has often been displayed throughout the world, and parts of it belong to the permanent collection of the Institute of the Arab world in Paris.
