Testour will host 42nd session of its international traditional Arab music festival
Tunis , June 26, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--The Moorish town of Testour is to host the 42 nd session of its traditional Arab music festival. Since 1967, Testour is attempting to pay tribute to a music which faithfully reflects the identity of the Arabs, once settled in Andalusia and who were expatriated from their homes in Spain.
The “Malouf” for which the town of Testour is well known, is that particular nostalgic chant which is transmitted from one generation to the other, and which is destined to assuage the pain of exile from the original motherland.
For this session, the Festival has invited troupes from Libya and Algeria; the Rachidia, Tunisia's official ‘Malouf‘ orchestra, will open the festival on July 12, 2008 and Naoufel Ben Aissa will close the event on July 26, 2008. Several other Tunisian ‘Malouf' troupes such as those of Sousse , the Kef, La Marsa and Bizerta, will also perform during the event. Individual performances are also scheduled featuring Alia Belaid, Mohsen Cherif, as well as Ouled Jouini.
Last but not least, in order to sensitize young talents the festival, is organizing a competition to which 8 junior ‘Malouf' troupes will take part.
