Tunisian weightlifter wins World Junior Championship in Colombia

Tunis , June 19, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--The Tunisian weightlifter Khelil Maaouia won the World Junior Weightlifting Championship in Cali , Colombia (South America) on Monday.

Maaouia who won the event in the 56 kilogram category said upon returning to Tunisia that he was “thrilled to have won after an intensive seven month preparation in Bulgaria ”.

The Tunisian weightlifter also said that that he believed in his capacities from the start of the competition.

Khelil Maaouia won three gold medals in the event, namely in the 123 kilogram category, the 138 Kilogram category and in total by lifting 261 kilograms .

It is the first time a Tunisian weightlifter becomes world champion. The title immediately qualifies him for the Beijing 2008 Olympic games, where he is determined to “make a good showing”.
