An exhibit of the work of Brahim Dhahak offers rare moments of serenity and elation.
Tunis, June 12, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--The exhibit dedicated to the work of the late Brahim Dhahak, one of Tunisia's most creative engravers and painters, which is due to be held at the Kalysté art gallery, north of Tunis, on June 15-20, 2008, is a rare occasion to admire the work of this singular master craftsman of human and animal nature.
Emblematic of the work of Dhahak, is the sense of happiness and elation that his creations inspire. The purity of his engravings is also a testimony of the artist's own youth, where animals such as horses, camels, cats and birds roamed around the young Dhahak, permeating his imagination.
The artist who during his lifetime has never made a secret of his fascination for Matisse, paints women in a modernist stance, reminiscent of the great French painter. His engravings and choice of colors, are also symbolic of the versatility of his art, and his courage in exploring new materials, as well as new avenues of creation.
The serenity that his works inspire, is also that of a self- made artist who will leave a permanent stamp on Tunisian artistic creation.
