Tunisia 's national radio celebrates 70 th years of existence with first radio festival

Tunis , June 6, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--On the occasion of the celebration of its 70 th anniversary, Tunisia 's national radio organized its first radio festival.

From June 4 to 5, 2008 an exhibition was held to this effect retracing the main historical stages of this institution which was created in 1938 and started to broadcast as a national institution in 1957.

M Rafaa Dekhil, the Minister of communication and relations with the Chamber of Deputies and the Chamber of Advisors inaugurated the exhibit on Tuesday.

Some ancient audio equipment, notably microphones, amplifiers and recording machines dating back to the fifties were exhibited in the premises of the national radio in Lafayette , Tunis , speaking volumes of the technological progress, accomplished since.

The exhibit also displayed photographs and documents telling the quantum leap witnessed by the national radio station in its 70 years of existence.

On this occasion, an award ceremony was organized on Wednesday at the Tunis municipal theatre featuring a number of renowned artists and young talents.

The ceremony was attended by a large public enthralled by the performance of Lotfi Bouchnak who was accompanied by the Tunisian Radio Orchestra. Promising Young singers such as Mounir Mehdi and Dorsaf Hamdani interpreted songs from the Tunisian repertoire and were greeted by warm applause.

During the evening, the results of the competition of radio programs were announced and the Minister of culture and heritage preservation, as well as the Minister of communication and relations with the Chamber of Deputies and the Chamber of Advisors, awarded a number of prizes.

The “Golden radio” was attributed to “sport show” produced by Mosaique FM, whereas the “Silver Radio” was awarded to the program “invités et questions” (guests and questions) from the national cultural radio.

The Program “en mémoire” (in memory) produced by Radio Tataouine won the first prize in the cultural category programs.

In the category programs on the web, the “Golden radio” was awarded to “soirée sur le net” (an evening on the web), by Radio Tataouine.

Other prizes went to the best program anchors, with Hatem Amara and Karima Oueslati earning the public's best prizes.
