Tunisia ranked 35 th in the world and 1 st in Africa by WEF' s “2007-2008 Global Technology Report”

Tunis , July 22, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--Tunisia's positive international rankings have just been comforted with the latest ranking by the  latest 2007-2008, World Economic Forum "Global Technology Report"  which ranks the country 35 th globally with an overall score of 4,33 and the first in Africa insofar as networked readiness in concerned.

Under the theme “Fostering innovation through networked readiness”, the “2008 Global Technology Report” which is published for the seventh consecutive year with a record coverage of 127 economies, has become the world's most comprehensive and authoritative international report on the impact of ICT on the development process and competitiveness of national economies throughout the globe.

The report is produced by the World Economic Forum in cooperation with INSEAD, a leading European Management School , based in France .

Tunisia , which has just been ranked 49 th globally and second in Africa by the “2008 WEF Global Enabling Trade Report”, is ranked 35 th in the world and first in Africa , in terms of its networked readiness.

The 2008 Global Technology Report, which focuses this year on 8 specific areas , including the impact of ICT on innovation and the development of e-skills for the information age, is based on a mixture of hard data collected from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the World Bank, and United Nations specialized agencies.

Tunisia precedes Hungary (37), Thailand (40), Italy (42), India (50), Brazil (59) and Turkey (55) among other nations. It is the first in Africa and in the Maghreb and the third in the Arab world, after the UAE (29) and Qatar (32).

For the second time in a row, the report ranks Denmark as first, followed respectively by Sweden (2) and Switzerland (3), while Chad is listed last (127 th ).
