Partnership between Tunisian universities and the University of Georgia , results in three -day workshop on quality and accreditation in higher education

Tunis, July 21, 2008-(TunisiaOnline)--A three day workshop was officially opened on Monday in Tunis by Mr Lazhar Bououni, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technology.

The workshop which focuseS on quality, evaluation and accreditation, is organised from July 21 to 23, 2008, in partnership between Tunisian universities , coordinated by the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and the University of Georgia , Athens , USA .

In his opening address, Mr Bououni, said that Tunisia has developed a strategy in the fields of quality, evaluation and accreditation, including the new law relative to higher education, and the creation of the national committee of evaluation and the quality assistance program (PAQ).

Universities, he added should not only meet the needs of and expectations of the students they train, but also those of society, in its economic, cultural and scientific development.

The workshop, which comprises presentations and round tables by several Tunisian and American scholars, is meant to foster a sharing of mutual experiences, as well as providing interesting perspectives for Tunisian universities which are increasingly involved in the improvement of quality, through objective evaluation benchmarks and accreditation systems.

This partnership with the University of Georgia, which has also led to an exchange of experience at the level of distance teaching, will enable some 35 Tunisian scholars to acquaint themselves with American and European methods in terms of evaluation of training in tertiary education.
