Tunisia receives another favorable ranking in 2008 WEF “Global Enabling Trade Report”.

Tunis , July 10, 2008 (TunisiaOnline)--Tunisia has received yet another favorable ranking in the latest 2008 World Economic Forum “Global Enabling Report”.

“The Global Enabling Trade Report 2008” which reports on the free circulation of trade commodities through international borders in 118 of the world's economies, is the first

international analysis of a great number of measures meant to facilitate trade exchanges.

Tunisia which is ranked 49 th in the world, tops the field in the Maghreb and is second in Africa after Mauritius . It is also ranked 4 th in the Arab world overall after the UAE, Bahrain , and Qatar , and precedes Oman (50), Jordan (51), Saudi Arabia ,(53) Kuwait (58), and Syria (107).

Tunisia also positions itself favorably in comparison with Thailand (52), Mexico (65), India (71), Argentina (78), Brazil (80), the Philippines (82) and the Russian Federation (103).

The ranking is based on the “Enabling Trade Index” which uses on the one hand, a combination of statistical data available to the larger public and on the other hand an executive opinion survey realized by the WEF partners, located in the countries under study. In Tunisia it was carried out by “Arab heads of enterprises institute”.

The index is also based on such factors as: access to the market, customs administration, transport and communication infrastructure, and trade environment.

In its analysis of Tunisia 's performances, the report ranks Tunisia 23 rd insofar as its business environment is concerned and 34rd in terms of the security of its borders.

The report also stresses that increased investment in the sector of infrastructure and the use of communication and transport ,would enable Tunisia to benefit more from international commerce.
